An exciting, brand new nonprofit organization based
in New Jersey is now fully dedicated to preventing
and reducing destructive behavior in young people. D
STREET OUTREACH PROGRAMS INC. (DSOP) recently became
an official 501(c)3 organization devoted to working
with youth and having a positive influence on their
lives.
It was founded by longtime NJCM affiliate member and
friend,
Dave Street,
who is also its executive director. Dave said that
“working with mayors around the state motivated him
to take this step and form an organization to
influence young people to reject violence and crime
and instead make positive choices in their lives.”
The chairman of the DSOP Board of Directors is
Mr. Barry Lefkowitz, a long time friend and former
Senior Lobbyist for NJCM.
The stated purpose of DSOP is “to provide quality
educational programs, presentations, products,
special projects and services that encourage and
help people, especially young people, to control
their emotions, reduce destructive behavior and
encourage respect among people.”
The organization plans on fulfilling its mission
by providing services on several levels. It will
offer outreach presentations, workshops, training
sessions and theatrical presentations to schools,
alternative schools, shelters for homeless
teenagers, detention centers and any willing
institution that works with at-risk young people.
DSOP will also offer printed materials such as
pamphlets, books and workbooks. It plans to run an
online anger management clinic as well as TV
public-service announcements.
The focus of all its materials will be to supply
practical and inspirational advice on how people can
make positive and productive choices instead of
participating in destructive behavior. There is a
website at
www.dstreetoutreach.org.
“We believe that many social problems can be
prevented or reduced,” said Street. “But to do so it
is especially important that we will influence the
behavior of young people in a positive way. That’s
what we hope to accomplish.”
Dave has been giving presentations in
schools, centers and various events for over eight
years. He has also
published a book giving advice on the subject of
controlling anger titled “How to Really Manage Our
Anger, Attract Success and Save Our Planet”.
