Employment Training & Workforce Development
An educated, skilled workforce is one of the greatest assets New Jersey can have – particularly in difficult economi c times. To develop and maintain a workforce that attracts and supports the green jobs and growth industries of the future, the NJCM supports increased federal funding for training programs like the Workforce Investment Act. Programs built on the needs of employers, providing training for both young people first entering the job market and older workers who are changing occupations, will best help New Jersey businesses compete in the 21st century global economy. Federal programs should take into consideration the unique needs of local areas, and municipal officials must be given the authority to decide how funds can best be spent in their communities. Summer youth employment programs and partnerships that prepare students for productive careers will help ensure our state of a bright, prosperous future.
